Brazil issued about 67 thousand electronic visas between November 2017 and May 2018. The increase in visas issued between November 2017 and May 2018 was of over 4000% - from 365 visas issued in November last year, to 16.4 thousand in May this year.

The United States was the country that most applied for e-visas in the period: 46 thousand of issued visas were requested by the US. Then, we have Australia, with 10.7 thousand. Canada, with 6 thousand and Japan, with almost 4 thousand electronic visas applied for and issued.

Men and women aged 24 to 39 correspond to the biggest number of applications made, most of them businesspeople (around 13% men and 6% women). Tourism and business were the two main motivations that attracted visitors to Brazil.

How to apply for the e-visa

To request the document, travellers must go to http://www.vfsglobal.com/brazil-evisa/. Through the system, every procedure, including fees, analysis, awarding and issuing the visa last up to 72 hours. The permit is valid for two years and does not stop those interested in applying for the traditional visa in the Brazilian consulate from doing so.

The ease of issuing visas is part of the Brazil + Tourism programme, created to boost the travelling sector in the country and reach 12 million foreign tourists by 2022. For the documents necessary to apply for a Brazilian visa, click here.
