Government launches 2017/2018 Agricultural and Livestock Plan
Speaking during the launch ceremony of the 2017/2018 Agricultural and Livestock Plan, held this Wednesday (7) at the Presidential Palace, President Michel Temer reinforced the government's "unequivocal commitment to Brazilian agriculture and livestock".
The Plan will offer R$ 190.25 billion in rural credit for medium and large farmers between 1 July this year and 30 June 2018. For the president, the sector is a source of optimism for the national economy.
“We are already laying the groundwork for a much more prosperous 2018. The Agricultural and Livestock Plan is about one thing, as you have seen: planning. There is no room for improvisation," Temer said, noting also the decrease in interest rates for farmers and bureaucracy-reducing measures such as the Agro+ Plan, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply.
The president stressed that Brazilian agriculture is modern and synonymous of innovation, research and efficiency. “It was not without reason that we have just had a record harvest. The sector, as has been said, grew over 13% in the first quarter. In 2016, its share in our exports reached the 40% mark. Hence the sense of priority that our government devotes to the field.”
The president also stressed that, in addition to supporting agribusiness production and ensuring the opening of international markets to Brazilian products, the government also supports the development of family farming, which will also receive R$ 30 billion in incentives.
