The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the organ of the federal government responsible for Brazilian relations with other countries as well as for Brazilian participation in international organizations.

The Ministry is informally called Itamaraty, the name of the palace that was its home until 1970.

With a network of more than 220 representations around the world, the Ministry promotes the interests of the country abroad, provides assistance to Brazilian citizens, and provides support to Brazilian companies doing business outside the country.

Through the site of the ministry, foreigners can find information regarding consular services, telephone numbers, and addresses of their country’s representatives in Brazil, and the official Brazilian position regarding topics on the international agenda, among other topics.
